Young Love: Story

When Siva and his friends would reminisce about their high school days, there was one particular girl that he’d always remember. The memory of her would always bring a smile to his face and, often, his heart would flutter the same way it did the first time that he met her.

It’s true what they say, you never forget a first love and a first kiss no matter how old you get or how much you love your current lover, wife or partner. He could still remember how soft her hair felt or how smooth her skin was under his touch. Everything was still fresh in his mind as if it was all just yesterday.

They parted ways because their young minds couldn’t cope with their strong feelings for one another. Everything was so intense, and this got confusing for both of them, which resulted in them fighting all the time.

He now understands what happened before, but during that time, all they both knew was that the fights were just too much and their feelings for each other were just hard to bear for their young hearts.

Siva is divorced now. His wife found someone else. He was surprised how calmly he took the news. He thought he was going to fight tooth and nail with her, but surprisingly, he took the news lightly, and they ended their 10-year marriage amicably for the sake of the children.

His solitude is what would often trigger memories of his young love.

“Where is she now? My sweet Gopika.”

Gopika, for her part, never found anyone she would want to marry, so she stayed single and enjoyed life as much as she could. But there would be times when she’d get a little lonely and long for someone to love. Once in awhile, she did think of Siva but only with fond memories.

They never personally got in touch after high school, but common friends would often give them news about the other; and Gopika was saddened by the news of his recent divorce. She considered calling him up to check how he was doing but she didn’t want him to think that she had been thinking about him all this time.

Lost in their own thoughts and their own lives, they could only hope to run into each other one day and just pick up where they left off; each hoping that their young love is, after all, the true love they have been destined for.
