Govt employees rally in Jammu, demand arrears
Jammu, Mar 7 (PTI) Over 2,000 state employees today took out a rally and marched to the civil secretariat here to press for their demands of grant of Sixth Pay Commission arrears.
Shouting slogans against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, employees, under the banner of All J&K Joint Action Employees Union (AJKJEU), forcibly tried to proceed to the secretariat but their march was foiled by police and paramilitary forces.
The agitating employees clashed with security personnel for over half an hour.
Later, union leaders Khurshid Alam, Abdul Qayoom Wani, Muntazar Langoo and Sayeeda Ladhaki were detained.
“We have been demanding the arrears since 2009. An agreement was signed by the government and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah promising us arrears. But nothing was given to us,” J&K Secretariat employees union president, Nazir Ahmed told reporters here.
